Build a Bike

Through donations, we acquire a large number of bicycles in various states of repair. Once we have recycled  the total losses, what we are left with is a collection of worthy frames and parts. What we do with these is what this program is about.

The principle is simple - we train and support you to rebuild two bikes. When these are complete, you get to keep one for yourself, and we add the other one to our supply of awesome bikes. These then become available for our other programmes - rent-a-bike, bikes-for-sale, and bikes-4-community.

The details are flexible - in principle, come over to the shop during our open hours, and tell the shop manager that you want to participate in this program. We will then establish what sort of bike would suit you, and what the level of commitment you can make. It takes anywhere from 5 to 20 hours to strip and rebuild a bike, and this varies depending on your expertise (or lack thereof, but don't worry, we are excellent coaches in the art of bike maintenance), and the particular bike you choose to work on. Don't forget, you are committing to doing this for 2 bikes.

After you complete this amazingly fun and rewarding process, you get to cycle away on your own, brand new (to you) bike, with the skills and ability to keep it in tip-top condition.
