Bicycle Registration Bill

A few representatives from Southern Oregon are trying to pass a bill that will require bikers to pay $54 every two years to register our bikes.
I haven't read the proposed bill. But many people have. And organizations I respect have posted their opposition to it. See the Bicycle Transportation Alliance's press release, for example. There is an active FaceBook group discussing this, too.
It won't do any harm to join the FaceBook group, but I suspect that there are more impact full methods to re-dress this bill. In principle, a bike registration is not a bad thing, as long as the registration gets us bikers something useful and tangible. And I would also stress that it should be voluntary. That would result in the benefits for us when we do register actually being of real value, rather than another way for the state to raise money for the general fund.
If you have an idea of what can be done to effectively express opposition to this bill, or to get it re-focused to be useful and meaningful, please add to the thread.
Thanks, Mark.
